Billy Van Walsum
There it stood, a lone tree
Its worn branches swayed in the unforgiving wind
We huddled around the gentle warmth
The great hearth sheltered us from the cold
We were at peace.
The sun shimmered throughout the treetops
The snow glistened in the light
A new day has risen.
For the first time in months
I greet and old friend who I longed to see
The pink leaves sway in the breeze
The warm wind caresses my face
The earth engulfed me.
The vibrant color of the flowers glow
I inhale and smell the sweet air
All is well.
Immense mountains surround me
The sky fills with colors of the morning
Summer is here.
The tides roll out
Sailboats pass to and fro
The lighthouse keeps its beacon steady
The strong wind gives life to the sails
The ocean gives life to the island
The island gives life to me
The brisk weather nips at me
As the leaves fall from the treetops
The pond remains still
One by one
Leaves sway to the ground
And set the trees ablaze with color
Laughter and excitement fill the air
Children march through the night
As the moon rises
